Get Wisdom FirstThe Book of Proverbs The world seeks wisdom and understanding. Why? Maybe because wisdom and understanding will afford people a happy successful life. If I compare wisdom to a fine wine, then, the Book of Proverbs is a magnificent vineyard. Chapter 1 “The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel; 2 To know wisdom and instruction; to perceive the words of understanding; 3 To receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, and equity; I personally love the above three verses. What’s not to like about wisdom, justice and equity. Oh, and let’s not forget “To know wisdom and instruction; to perceive the words of understanding.”Really, can anyone have an objection to getting wisdom and understanding? What would the world be like if everyone earnestly applied the attributes of wisdom and understanding to their lives? I can think of a few problems were wisdom and understanding would be helpful. For instance, take the Middle East. This seems like a good place to start doesn’t? If King Solomon were alive today, do you honestly think he would be applying the “old law” of an eye for any eye? I don’t think so. No, I don’t pretend to have any answers to the problems in the Middle East. I am specifically referring to Israel and Palestine. As far as Iraq goes, well that is an entirely different matter. I don’t believe the United States had any business taking on the “Regime Change” in Iraq. We jumped the gun there. Diplomacy and sanctions should have been given considerably longer to work. Proverbs 8-the Excellency of Wisdom “Wisdom is better than rubies; and all things that may be desired are not to be compared to it.” If you follow the ways of wisdom you will invite wise counsel and sound wisdom. In turn you will enjoy understanding and strength. Don’t kid yourself, if you chase after wisdom, she will find you. Your reward will be a rich life. Your richness will exceed any expectations that you may have. This is the end result of living life with walking lock step in the ways of wisdom. You can tell a person who loves wisdom from one who does not. A wise man embraces understanding. Notice, he doesn’t correct a “scorner”. Why? Because a scorner will inevitably hate you. On the other hand, if you know you are dealing with a wise person, you may offer constructive criticism. Because, a wise man will love you. What’s the catch to getting all of this wisdom? Simple. The price tag is this, acknowledge your Creator with all of his power and glory. This is the very beginning of knowledge. I can personally tell you that the emotional and spiritual experience of giving Acknowledgment to a Power larger then Life is awesome, exhilarating, and uplifting. If you are dominated by your ego and prone to take great offense to insults, you are asking for trouble. “Poverty and shame shall be to him that refuseth instruction”. Most importantly, it pays to hang out with wise people: “He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed”.
