STAND FOR YOUR GREATNESS and realize your potential now-Series #1:
What does Stand for Your Greatness Mean? Stand for Your Greatness means taking those gigantic steps that will free you up from the “Little Me” and allow you to march in step with the Giants of this world. Realize your potential. How does that sound? Is it exciting and exhilarating or fearfulFear Management and very daunting? Or, maybe the whole idea sounds preposterous to you? The answer to this question depends on where you are at with yourself in life. Realize your potential. How about growing into bigger shoes? And, it could also mean walking into an adventure with sheer fear and panic. So what! Everybody worth his salt gets scared. The question is, do you have enough belief in yourself to pursue your goals in spite of your fear? Overcoming fear has very little to do with courage and guts. Don’t let anyone do that number on you. What it boils down to is having enough confidence and conviction to forge ahead, in spite of your fear and doubts. I know this subject very well. Why? Because I have lived on both sides of this question. What possibly could have placed me in such a negative state? Well, it took me a terrible long time, too much time, to realize the truth and reality of my sorry state. My problem was not appearance, brains, social skills or whatever. No body had it in for me or was against me. Quite the contrary. No sir. My “enemy” was within...my own mind. I had a sneaking suspicion this was the case. But I had no way of confirming it. I didn’t get my answers to this puzzle until I was in middle age. I will never forget one experience I had while I was in the Marine Corps boot camp. The DI (drill instructor) began berating me because I performed a rifle drill, in not a perfect manner. I began shaking with emotion when he started yelling at me. After he left me, I wondered why I was so shook up. I had a flash of insight that told me I would get my answer to this puzzle when I was much older. At the time, I was 18 years old. If you knew me you would understand. I was very tough, tenacious and high strung. I kicked butt out of some very big mouth hombres while in boot camp. I mean guys in my own platoon. Being from a small Midwestern town and a great family, I appeared on the surface nice and well mannered. While the inner me was a very "watch your mouth tough guy" who took no junk from anybody. I loved to fight. I ate up aggression. In fact when I played high school football, I used to knock people out, twice my size, when I tackled them. It so happened, there was a gang of guys from New York who thought they were bad dudes. They targeted me one night, and to my pure delight, I loved every moment of it. Needless to say, after that physical clash, the “bad dudes” staid there distance from me. How’s that for earning respect? What I couldn't handle. What I couldn’t handle well, was disapproval from my authority figures. It drove me nuts. Needless to say, I was one fine Marine. I would literally jump through a glass window, if I was ordered to. Years latter, I discovered, I possessed a mental block dealing with love and rejection. Something I incurred when I six years old. Since then, I had a deep seated fear of being rejected by authority figures. Don't misunderstand me, my parents were very wonderful loving people. I just misinterpreted some innocent communication to me that eventually gave me some serious problems. Ironically, this seemingly innocent miscommunication is the cause for so many problems adults have latter in life. You can't give up. Realize your potential. You owe it to yourself. You think this is a joke? It wasn’t a joke to me. I would try to move mountains inorder to avoid disapproval from Authority. Regardless, of the sacrifice and cost to myself. I can’t emphasize how self destructive this “block” was to me. If I went into detail, you wouldn’t believe me anyway. It really has nothing to do with courage. The point being, following your dreams, or making things happen for yourself in a big way, has very little to do with courage. It has everything to do with self-esteem and confidence in your self. I know there are millions of people who have the same problem I had. It may be a different kind of mental or emotional block. But the darn thing is screwing up there lives and preventing them from self-actualization, you know, being all that they can really be...realize your potential. The "fix" is usually very simple. The wonderful upside and good news to this saga is the "fix" or "cure" is oftentimes something very simple. Oftentimes, the magic bullet is a "simple nod" here or a "double take" there. You know what I mean? Use a little introspection and analysis, with a focus on that tender period in your very young life when good and bad stuff was formed in your sub-conscious. Like your belief systems. You may have some negativity going on there that is working against you now. In future issues here, I will tell you how I eliminated my concentration block which was preventing me from using my intellectual powers. This is the real reason-realize your potential- I created this site-Stand for Your Greatness. It’s no joke for me. Nor is it a joke for millions of people who are not using all of there God given talents and strengths. I am fortunate in the fact that I discovered the source of my problems that was holding me back. I won’t be deterred. I will realize my potential. Even if I have to do it while I am pushing a “walker” or “crutches”. The upside of my seemingly life long struggle is that I have developed a very strong fighting spirit. This is why the Doctor at my bedside, during my cancer battle, said I was a genuine real “hard case”. Semper Fi, Marine! See Your Potential Series #2
