Opportunity Disguised, Scares The Heck Out Of Us!
Opportunity disguised, often comes in the form of the unfamiliar. The fly in the ointment is this "disguise" usually presents itself to us in a form we are not familiar with or don't like. Subsequently, this presents a "challenge" to us. It means we have to leave our comfort zone. And I, along with the rest of humanity, will do almost anything to avoid discomfort and intimidation. Opportunity DisguisedMost of us really don’t know what is good for us. The average Joe and Jane probably gets hit with all kinds of opportunities every day, but they don’t act or take advantage of these opportunities, because most people simply don’t recognize Dame Fortune when it hits them in the face. Why and how can this be? Because, we all want things when we want them and exactly how and the way we want them. Wow! That’s a mouthful. Anyway, that’s a sad fact of life. I shudder when I think about the “opportunity disguised situations” I have let slip through my fingers, simply because, I really didn’t have a clue what I was dealing with. Don’t worry Jack, that’s me, you have plenty of good company. Why don’t you include practically, the whole human race?Be hardcore.I mean, if we want to be really “hard core” about all of this opportunity disguised business, we would probably be better off just forgetting about the Law of Attraction, power of your subconscious, Prayer Power, Good Luck or whatever, and just try and enjoy life. Just let what will happen, happen. We get hit with opportunities every day. Why? Because, we spend all of this energy with supplications and imploring the powers that may be, with the hopes of making our dreams come true, and to what end? The truth is, we get all kinds of opportunities presented to us on a daily basis, but we usually ignore them or blow them off. They are opportunity disguised. Why are they opportunity disguised? Because we simply don’t recognize these events as opportunities for us! These opportunities may come in different shapes and sizes than what we expect. The problem is our expectations are totally at odds with the reality of our heart felt desires. No kidding, you say. What’s that? “Be careful what you wish for, because you just might get it.” Really? My personal opportunity disguised. Here are a few personal examples of what I am talking about. When I was a young lad, shortly after I finished college, and in the job market, I approached a very successful national insurance company in Chicago, Illinois. The long and the short of it, I blew a perfectly solid job opportunity, because the job interview didn’t happen the way I expected it to. The personnel manager gave me an IQ test. I took the test. He scored it and informed me, I did ok, but he thought I could do better. He told me to relax, concentrate on the test and do it again. I did. After scoring the test, he informed me that I had achieved the highest score anybody made on that test with his company. He asked me to come back in a week and we would go over the opportunities the company might have for me. I blew the thing off.Instead of following through with that encouragement, I blew the entire thing off as something that was no good for me. Instead of being thrilled with the high IQ score I achieved, I was taken back in a negative manner by the entire process. Why? Because I was not a good “tester” at that stage of my life. I didn’t believe I could have scored so well on that test. Subsequently, I walked away from that opportunity. It turned out years latter, that I scored quite well on other tests. Meaning I was developing my concentration powers and I wasn’t as stupid as I thought. The entire thing was an opportunity disguised as a challenge to me. If that personnel manager would have told me I had scored a little above average and told me to come in next week for a discussion of opportunities with his company, I would have followed up. But, the entire scene, didn’t pan out the way I “expected” it to. So there you go, a blown opportunity by yours truly. An opportunity disguised. My recent screwup.More recently, I came close to screwing up some situations dealing with money and income. In spite of myself, Dame Fortune, smiled on me and gave me all of the resources I needed to enjoy a happy and healthy lifestyle. It was just opportunity disguised. Specifically, I knew what I wanted in terms of financial goals. Being narrowly focused, like myself, and not seeing the forest for the trees, I was unhappy and frustrated because I had not achieved the income level which I felt I needed.Good fortune smiled on me.On the other hand, Good Fortune was smiling on me, and affording me the lifestyle I wanted. Keeping this story short, my “asset” level had improved considerably, like out of the blue. This god sent afforded me my desired lifestyle. Although I have not met my income goal, my asset level increased, thus; affording me my desired wishes. No complaints from me, I am learning to live with opportunity disguised. This “opportunity” came to me not in income form but in asset level. So who cares? It did the job and I met my goal, not in income but in terms of “value”. Which, was the essence of my hearts desire. I just didn’t realize it. Having now realized my good fortune, my “gratitude” is strong, which means, I will probably be getting a bunch more of this “good stuff”. Yes, I am just like everybody else, I wouldn’t recognize an opportunity if it hit me over the head! Try making new friends. The same problems relating to unrecognizable opportunities applies to making new friends. I simply can’t tell you the number of times, I have missed opportunities of making and developing new and rewarding friendships, simply because I misjudged someone because of superficial appearances. I have met people, an initially thought they were real jerks. And as time move on, these same people, turned out to be my best friends. You see, judging books by their covers and opportunities by their disguises can be hazardous to your health. Like to both yours and mine. So what's the answer? So what’s the answer to this world of disguised opportunities? How do you know what is or isn’t an opportunity? In all honesty, I am not sure what the answer is. There are some things I do know that works. Bet on yourself. Believe in yourself. The bigger the dreams and expectations you have for yourself, the more opportunities you will be presented with. As you develop a strong spirit and a large heart and appetite for making your dreams a reality, you will find yourself possessing the necessary wisdom to discern what is good for you. There won't be as much opportunity disguised.
