Dream Big And Live Large!
How to Dream Big and Live Large?** Simple. Just KISS. Yes, like a shot out of the gates, just blast out with your goal in mind and keep it simple Stu...d. ops! (I hate to call people “stupid”.) Anyway, now that we have got that out of the way. This “approach” works best with Big Ambitions and Goals. No small stuff here. Who sweats the small stuff anyway? Not me. Not you. It must be some other people in the crowd, Right? Don't forget,we need to dream big and live large.**Actually what I am aiming at is Incremental Growth.Dream big and live large. That’s right, you know, slice up that humongous goal into “doable” slices, chunks, or whatever you want to call them. Hey, I got it. How about “benchmarks”? This way it’s like “no fuss, no muss”. Or like going under general anesthesia for a medical procedure. You know? Before you know it, you’ve woke up and are wondering when they are going to do the procedure. Golly Miss Molly, the docs and nurses are standing there smiling at you. They are telling you that you did great and the procedure is finished. How about that? The whole thing went as smooth as glass. Now that's dream big and live large for real! **Here’s another example of the practicality and advantage of using Incremental Growth to get what you want.In another words, dream big and live large. When I began martial arts as a white belt in Tae Kwon Do, I felt overwhelmed at the prospect of me having to do those very difficult kicks that I observed the Black Belts executing in the classroom. I didn’t believe it would be humanly possible for me to do those kind of kicks. If you saw the same demonstration that I did, I am sure you would have agreed with me. The force, balance and flexibility that these Black Belts demonstrated was awesome. **I soon found out that most all martial art training consists of learning and doing skills on an "incremental" basis. You keep building on each skill set learned. Your kicks, punches and combinations are all tied into each other in an evolving manner. This is what it means to dream big and live large. **So, what once appeared to be incredibly difficult, eventually became quite normal and natural. You know, “no big deal”. The only challenge was, mustering up enough energy and concentration, in order to do the “techniques” in a proper manner. **Like all goal pursuits and ambition realizations, you need to give the subject tasks the necessary time and patience. For me, my realization of getting my Black Belt, took me a little over seven years. Approximately 10% of martial art students actually obtain a Black Belt. This having patience thing, is part of the dream big and live large business. **I’ll let you in on a little secret great teachers and Masters of Martial Arts know. These wonderful teachers are not miracle makers when it comes down to transforming their students into super duper magical kickers and punchers. Not by a long shot. Don’t misunderstand, these truly gifted teachers are definitely intelligent, gifted and intuitive people. And, most importantly, the really unforgettable ones, are people of strong character. Not too many of these martial art instructors are capable of turning water into wine, however. Keeping in mind our theme here of incremental growth and goal attainment, the students are put through a step by step process of evolving kicks, punches and combinations. **For starters, students spends weeks on kicking fundamentals and they stay with it until a particular kick is executed perfectly. In Tae Kwon Do, you learn the “front kick” first. Then, the “side kick. Then, the “back kick”. The, the axel kick. And then, last but not least, you learn the spinning heel kick.(Which is a very powerful kick). Each kick takes fundamentals from the preceeding kick and then builds on it.) Then, to add more challenge to these exercises, the students must learn to break boards with these kicks. The trick of it is, to try and break the board and not the other guy’s hand that is holding the board. Or better yet, try and avoid breaking your own foot. Remember, you are breaking these boards “barefooted” **I hope the above description of martial art exercises gives you an idea about approaching seemingly overwhelming goals and ambitions with a positive “can do” attitude. It’s no pie in the sky jargon. You want to dream big and live large? Then take those aspirations of yours and slice up and strip down the necessary parts that you know make up your lofty ambition. In another words, get on with the necessary grunt work. Make it happen! **What? You don't know or have a clue as to what the "slices and parts" are to your lofty goal? Then find out. Ask people and do research. Yeah, try Mr. Google for starters. You need to get into the trenches with the fundamentals that make your dream big and live large goals work. Sorry, if you can't do this then you are kidding yourself. Maybe you better set some other goals for your self? **Was this whole martial art trip a big sacrifice to me? Heck no! I really enjoyed the Journey getting there. I loved the action, the moves, the spirit and the overall environment. Naturally, there were setback and disappointments along the way. But, I learned a very solid “life lesson”…I learned to control my Ego and emotions. I had to do this in order to take instructions with the right attitude. Otherwise, I would become my own worse enemy and get nowhere fast. I will never forget, when my Master handed out the Black Belts, he cited me a special trophy award for showing Great Spirit during the testing. I was very proud of that citation he gave me.Dream big and live large!
